The American people found this 1964 commercial so repugnant and "below-the-belt" that it was aired only once, then consigned to the dustbins of history. Lyndon Johnson, who "instead of loving people" presided over the expansion of the deadly and controversial Vietnam War, used Barry Goldwater's statement "Extremist in the defense of liberty is no vice" against him to great advantage.

The Mondale Ad

The Mondale/Ferraro ad was a remake of the LBJ ad, but it also blew up in his face. He lost the 1984 election very badly.

The Clinton ad was actually created by the same people who had created Mondale's ad. Has the political divide grown so wide that this is now "acceptable politics" or will it also blow up in her face?
