The Poet

The Poet approached his subject with detachment
As confidences were exchanged
Like Mother's milk to her nursing child
Detachment was replaced with affection
And the hunger of the poet was satiated
As was the hunger of the child

WHY ?

Daddy, she whispered
As I put her to bed
I'm scared, I have sad thoughts
Inside my head

Daddy, why are people
Killing each other
I thought God has taught
We're all sisters and brothers?

Baby girl, it's hard to say
Why men wage wars
And make our children pay

Daddy, I've been praying
For world peace everyday
I thought if I was good
Wars would go away

My sweet baby girl
God gives man free will
He doesn't start wars
It's mankind who kills

God picks up our pieces
He mends broken hearts
We're given the chance
To have a fresh start

Daddy she whispered
As I stood by her bed
I'm scared, I have sad thoughts
Inside my head

Baby girl, I'll protect you
As much as I can
Hopefully, there's peace
In mankind's master plan

Baby girl it's hard to say
Why men wage wars
And make our children pay

God will pick up our pieces
He mends broken hearts
We're given the chance
To have a fresh start
